I come from the Cadenheads who first lived at the head of Cadon Water in Selkirkshire, Scotland. The oldest record in the family tree is from about 1367. It references “William de Caldanhed, a monk [yes] of Newbattle Abbey,” located near the head of the head of Cadon Water, a stream in the still remote hill country south of Edinburgh. My father is one of the Cadenheads once of Pine Mountain, Georgia, who were sharecroppers during the Depression, but all of whom rose to places of respect and success. My mother came from the McGuires, who first homesteaded the Central Valley of California.
I am the “trophy husband” of Debbie Segal, also an attorney, originally from Massapequa on Long Island, New York. Growing up, she sat behind Jerry Seinfeld for the first twelve years of her schooling. Together we are Adjunct Professors at Emory Law School, where we teach Public Interest Practice. She continues to practice and serve in organizations dealing with domestic violence. Her brother, nephew and mom live in South Florida. She would prompt me to add that we have an American Eskimo dog who retains all the energy and lack of discipline of her youth. A golden doodle has recently joined us, as well.
My son John and his wife Torie live nearby and have an energetic and bright son, Emery. My daughter Courtney found her soulmate Jorge in the southernmost town in the world, and now lives in Pucon, Chile, where they are raising their sons, Gabe and Paulo.
